Background Info:
Ala-Too Square is often the scene of violent uprisings. In 2005 thousands gathered to oust Askar Akayev. The Square was completely renovated in 2009, as seen in the photo above. Shortly after reconstruction a peaceful protest was fired on by security forces. Enraged protestors fought back and eventually stormed the Presidential Palace next door.
Photo Description:
Gold colored fountains located at Bishkek's Ala-too Square spray water high into the air. The day is sunny with a light blue sky and few clouds. A large white Kyrgyz government building with a gold dome is visible behind a mist of water droplets. Surrounding the fountains is a walking area made of brownish slabs of marble.
